BusinessInsider Suggests that iPhone 6 Could Debut in March 2012

iPhone users are currently eagerly anticipating the iPhone 5. But recent rumors from top tech and business analysts suggest that the iPhone 6 could debut as soon as March of 2012.

A common conundrum for iPhone users over the past few months — particularly those who own an iPhone 3G or 3Gs, was whether to go ahead and buy an iPhone 4 now, or wait until the iPhone 5 is released. Well, now those of us who are committed to purchasing an iPhone 5 — which is rumored to be due out sometime in September or early October — may want to think again: rumors now suggest that the iPhone 6 could debut as early as March of 2012.

That’s just 5 or 6 months after the purported release of the iPhone 5!

The idea comes from BusinessInsider, who suggests the following: “an analyst with Berengberg Bank suggests that the shake up [in iPhone release dates] may have to do with Apple’s new release schedules which will see new iPhone and iPad models every 6 months, as compared to the usual yearly cycles.” As a result, “This accelerated release would mean that if we were to see the iPhone 5 in September as rumored, then the iPhone 6 would roll out as early as March.”

While it may seem overzealous to imagine Apple releasing a new iPhone every six months — especially considering how much hype and excitement surround the typically annual iPhone release. But considering the multitude of Android smartphones being released month after month, Apple could be compelled to shorten the sales cycle for its iPhone franchise.

4G is another consideration.

If the iPhone 5 turns out not to be 4G-equipped, but 2012 becomes “the year that 4G broke in America,” Apple may not want to wait until September or October of 2012 to capitalize on it with the iPhone 6. Hence, the iPhone 6could debut in the first quarter of 2012 in order to have a fuller share of 4G onboarding that is bound to take place.

All of this being said, there is still no hard evidence that the iPhone 6 will debut as soon as March of 2012. It is more of a business theory than an actual rumor. And let’s not forget that many in the tech community believed that the iPhone 5 was going to debut at Christmas 2010 — just 5 months after the release of the iPhone 4.

well, it’s coming up on July 2011, and we still don’t have an iPhone 5 yet . . .
