iPhone 6 Going To Get 4G Treatment In 2012?

Rumors are abounding that a 3G iPhone 5 may have a 4G competitor in 2011 with the rumored “Nexus 4G.” Does this mean that a 4G iPhone 6 in 2012 is likely?

Year after year, 4G is becoming the holy grail for smartphones. And with ever-escalating rumors that the iPhone 5 may turn out to be more of a refresh than a revolutionary new iPhone iteration, the prospect of a groundbreaking iPhone 6 design that features a 4G radio is beginning to take shape.

Reliable sources are indicating that 4G LTE will make its way into the smartphone realm in 2011 with Google’s Nexus 4G, meaning that a 3G iPhone 5 could enter the fray at an immediate disadvantage. PopHerald reports:

““According to a report posted by Boy Genius or BGR, Google could release a new phone and will feature Long Term Evolution, or LTE. Apparently, LTE is quickly becoming popular in United States courtesy of Verizon Wireless, but no mention of the carrier in the new Google phone rumor . . . iPhone 5′s rumor mill is suggesting that Apple might introduce the iPhone 5 in August or September, that will include the company’s latest version of iOS, the iOS 5 packed with new notification feature that is a bit identical to Android’s (and not Windows phone), and with tweaked software feature that will allow the volume up button to act as a dedicated camera shutter button.”
